Background
Dr. Steel received her doctorate in psychology from Adler University in 1996 and undergraduate degree in Business Administration in 1983 from DePaul University, both in Chicago, IL. She is a Limited Licensed Psychologist with over 28 years of experience in settings that include college counseling center; community mental health; consultation; day hospitalization; forensics; pain management; private practice; on-call; and therapy-based school. Her client base is those who are college-aged and adults.
Approach
Dr. Steel’s approach is straight forward, direct, and empathic. She provides compassion and understanding as you tell your story while listening without judgment. Shame and guilt will be addressed as you find your way to forgiveness and freedom. Your spiritual beliefs will be incorporated into treatment if they are important to you. You can count on Dr. Steel to dig deeply to identify correctly the problems you are facing; present on-target strategies; and help you process and let go of emotions that have stood in your way for too long. Therapy is paced in such a way that you move neither too slowly nor too quickly thereby ensuring that what you think; what you feel; and how you behave are congruent with one another and your moral values. This allows time for new thoughts to become internalized and for old behavior to no longer feel comfortable.
