MA LLPC
Leeanna has a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary (GRTS). She also holds a BS in Dietetics from Central Michigan University. She worked in the Nutrition field for over 5 years and through that work, God led her to her true calling. While working with nutrition clients one-on-one, she discovered that she enjoyed the deeper conversations. In order to change behaviors clients needed to first understand why they were happening. However, there were often deeper mental health concerns, or life circumstances that were blocking progress and she could not help them the way they truly needed. God placed it on her heart to become a counselor.
Leeanna is passionate about working with women (ages 10 and up) who struggle with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and emotional eating. In addition, she enjoys working with couples.
Leeanna primarily operates from a Cognitive Behavioral Theoretical perspective. She believes that identifying, disputing, and reframing maladaptive thought patterns and core beliefs can help an individual positively manage their emotions, thoughts, and behavior patterns.
She is also an EMDR trained therapist who believes in targeting negative core beliefs across a person’s lifespan to promote healing and adaptive positive beliefs in their present day lives.
She also believes in utilizing “homework” as part of the therapeutic process. The counseling session only makes up a small portion of the client’s schedule. This means it is imperative that the client actively works in-between sessions, applying what was learned, for counseling to be most effective.
